How to Create a Windows 2000 Emergency Repair Disk

1. Click  Run, In the “Run” box type: ntbackup.exe

2. On the “Backup” window, click the button located beside “Emergency Repair Disk”

3. Follow the instructions making sure to place a check mark in the box next to “Also backup the registry to the repair directory...”.  Choosing this will save your current registry files in a folder within your systemroot/repair folder. This is useful if you need to recover your system in the event your hard disk has failed.   
“Insert  a blank, formatted (1.44MB) diskette, into Drive A:\ and click “OK”

4. After clicking “OK” system data will be copied.

5. Click “OK” when the Emergency Repair Diskette was saved successfully

6. After clicking “OK” close the “Backup” window by clicking “Job” then “Exit” or by clicking on the box in the upper right hand corner of the window.

7. The Emergency Repair diskette is complete, eject the floppy diskette and make sure to label
    it “Windows 2000 Emergency Repair Disk” and store it in a safe place near your
    computer.

*Note: Each Windows 2000 Emergency Repair diskette created is unique to the PC
             in which it is created on.  It can only be used on the PC in which it was created.
