AntiVirus Information For Home Users
NC State Faculty, Staff and Students are entitled to use the NC State Symantec (Symantec) Anti-virus product on their home computers free of charge. You can find download links and more information about Symantec Antivirus for NC State Faculty, Staff and Students by clicking here.
To protect your home computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP operating systems from the latest virus attacks CS recommends that you do the following:
1. Download and install the Microsoft Security patch for your computer by clicking on the appropriate link:
My computer operating system is Windows 2000
My computer operating system is Windows XP
2. Once you have completed the security patch installation download the msblaster removal tool and save it to your desktop. The tool may be downloaded from:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe
Double-click on the fixblast.exe icon on your desktop and select start. A scan and removal tool from Symantec will run to remove the virus (if present) from your computer.
3. Once the fixblast scan and removal tool is finished you should update your anti-virus definitions to protect your computer from possible infection by this virus in the future. If you do not have an anti-virus program installed on your computer we highly recommend that you obtain and install one. NC State Faculty, Staff and Students are entitled to use the NC State Symantec (Symantec) Anti-virus product on their home computers free of charge. 4. Download other Symantec Virus/Worm Removal tools from:
SoBig Removal Tool
Stealther Removal Tool
Welchia Removal Tool
Save these tools to your desktop and double-click on the executable icon on your desktop and select "Start". The scan and removal tool from Symantec will run to remove the virus (if present) from your computer.
