Automated Virus Removal

CS has implemented the automation of virus removals by using detection scripts and Novell Application objects in conjunction with Symantec Virus Removal tools. During startup and upon detection of a pre-existing virus, the application will automatically run the Symantec Virus Removal tool for that particular virus and scan the local C:\ drive to remove the virus. Customers see no progress screens or windows. Customers may experience slow hard disk (C:\drive) access times during the time the virus removal tool is running. As new virus threats surface, CS will perform testing of the Symantec Virus Removal tools before distributing it to our customers.

If you are experiencing slow hard disk access times, there is a chance your PC may be running the Symantec removal tool which may take anywhere between 5-20 minutes depending on the number of files on your hard disk.

To determine if your PC is running a Symantec Virus Removal tool do the following:

  1. Press CTRL - ALT- DEL keys, Click the "Task List" button.

  2. In the "Windows Task Manager" window, check the "Image Name" column for any of the following Symantec Removal tools:

  3. fixblast.exe, fixnetsky.exe, fixsbigf.exe, fixwinsh.exe, fixswen.exe, fixwelch.exe

If any of these tools are listed, DO NOT end the process, allow the tool to completely remove the virus from the PC.

If any of these tools are not listed and you are experiencing long wait times when accessing files from your hard disk (C:\drive) please contact the CS HelpDesk at 515-3110.
